Overview

Session Description

Multiple guidelines exist for acute and chronic venous thromboembolism. The goal is to simplify recommendations and clarify when specific anticoagulants should be used along with when thrombolytics are indicated 

Target Audience

Pharmacists in all practice settings.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this educational activity learners will be able to:

  • Explain the pathophysiology of pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis
  • Identify signs, symptoms, and risk factors for venous thromboembolism=
  • Determine first line treatments based on disease severity and best practice guidelines
  • Select duration and treatment options for chronic therapy

Evaluation

All participants will have the opportunity to review the educational sessions and speakers and to identify future educational needs.

Faculty

Sara Kehn, PharmD, PGY1 Pharmacy Resident – Kent Hospital

Sara Kehn is a 2023 graduate of Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. She is currently a PGY1 resident at Kent Hospital, with areas of interest including emergency medicine and cardiology. After completing her residency, Sara plans to continue her career at Kent Hospital.

Requirements for Credit

Attendance and completion of online program evaluations are required to earn credit. No partial credit is available for this program. Evaluations must be completed at www.uripharmacycpd.org within 60 days.

The University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.
