Overview

“MenB and Me” focuses on complications associated with meningococcal disease, vaccine recommendations for prevention of meningococcal disease, and awareness of vaccination in college students.

Target Audience

Immunizing pharmacists, interested pharmacists in all practice settings, and pharmacy technicians.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this educational activity, pharmacists will be able to:

  • Describe meningococcal disease and the potential associated complications.
  • Review available vaccines for prevention of meningococcal disease as well as the current CDC and ACIP vaccine recommendations.
  • Describe a program used to educate and engage students and faculty at the University of Rhode Island (URI) regarding the meningitis serogroup B vaccine (MenB).
  • Discuss methods to raise awareness of the importance of vaccination in college students.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of an initiative targeted at increasing the immunization rate of MenB on the URI campus and in the surrounding community.

Upon completion of this educational activity, pharmacy technicians will be able to:

  • List vaccines that may be administered for the prevention of meningococcal disease.
  • Identify college-aged patients that may require immunization with the meningitis serogroup B vaccine (MenB).

Evaluation

All participants will have the opportunity to review the educational sessions and speakers and to identify future educational needs.

Attendance and completion of online program evaluations are required to earn credit. No partial credit is available for this program. Evaluations must be completed at www.uripharmacycpd.org within 60 days.
