On November 5th, Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students from the University of Rhode Island participated in an Interprofessional Education (IPE) event hosted by Brown University. The event brought together students from a variety of health disciplines—including medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and social work—to collaborate and strengthen their understanding of team-based patient care.
Through small-group discussions and case-based learning activities, students explored strategies for effective communication, role recognition, and coordinated care delivery. The IPE event emphasized the importance of mutual respect and collaboration among healthcare professionals to improve patient outcomes.
URI’s DPT students valued the opportunity to engage with peers from other programs and to apply interprofessional skills that will be essential in their future clinical practice. Events like this reflect the shared commitment across Rhode Island’s academic health programs to prepare graduates for holistic, patient-centered care.
