Rhody Rounds is a series of virtual medical case study sessions. Each session is proctored by a URI graduate who is currently in medical school or residency.
Who can attend? Any URI premedical student or recent graduate planning to apply to medical school in the near future. Pre-PA students are welcome as well. We especially encourage students who have minimal or no experience interacting with patients or doctors in a medical setting to sign up for Rhody Rounds. Students who have previously participated in Rhody Rounds are welcome to sign up again, though it is possible that some topics from previous semesters will be repeated.
What is the commitment? Each “class” consists of five evening sessions. We ask that students commit to all five sessions of their assigned class (see below for the Spring Term 2022 schedule). Because each session is interactive students are expected to be fully engaged and participate regularly. Some proctors may ask students to complete brief homework assignments prior to class sessions.
What will I learn? We created Rhody Rounds because many premedical students and recent alumni have been unable to find medical shadowing opportunities during the pandemic. While not a substitute for “live” clinical experience, Rhody Rounds teaches students about the way physicians approach a variety of patient cases including differential diagnosis, clinical communication, treatment plans, and diagnostic testing techniques. You will also have the opportunity to hear from medical students and residents about life in medical school.
