Your PSA Area Representative is your local connection to the union. Area Reps are here to listen, advise, and advocate. Whether you have a quick question or a serious concern, reaching out early helps ensure you get the right support and information.
Meet the officers and area representatives officer and representative assignmentsYou should contact your Area Rep when you:
- Have a workplace concern — such as unclear job expectations, workload increases, staff coverage, or communication issues within your unit.
- Need help understanding your contract — questions about work hours, comp time, evaluations, leave, promotions, or reclassifications.
- Are experiencing a workplace problem — including conflicts, inequities, or treatment you believe violates the contract or university policy.
- Have questions about salary or classification — including how to request a review, appeal, or understand a change in title or pay grade.
- Are new to URI or PSA — and want to understand what membership means, how to join, or what benefits are available through NEARI and NEA.
- Need confidential advice — before taking action or filing a grievance, to make sure you understand your rights and possible options.
- Want to get involved — such as joining a PSA committee, volunteering, or helping organize events and initiatives.
- Notice workplace changes — reorganizations, shifting responsibilities, or policy updates that may impact professional staff positions.
- Have leave, benefit, or time-off questions — including sick leave donation, the sick bank, parental leave, or tuition waiver eligibility.
- Are looking for connection — networking with other members, understanding shared concerns in your area, or bringing forward ideas for improvements.
- Simply want to stay informed — Area Reps can share current PSA priorities, updates from the Executive Committee, and news from NEARI and NEA.
Area Representatives can answer most questions directly or connect you with the appropriate PSA Officer or NEARI UniServ Representative for further support. Every conversation is treated respectfully and, when appropriate, confidentially.

PSA Sick Bank
URI PSA has a contract provision which enables URIPSA members to participate in a sick leave bank. We must renew our appeal each year because the bank does not carry over from year to year. PSA Sick Bank has been able to support many members through this CBA provision.
