Updates to RI-INBRE Proposal Solicitation and Review

Hi everyone,

‎Given the now longer NIH approval times for awarded projects, we will be accelerating our proposal solicitation and review process this cycle. We will be soliciting proposals for all of our award mechanisms. For all mechanisms we will ask for all the materials that we need at proposal submission time so that we can accelerate submitting funded proposals for approval to NIH.

Regrettably, we cannot support human subjects proposals that require IRB approval this funding cycle. We are working on building the capacity that we need to support these proposals in the future.

Tentative important proposal dates are listed below:

– Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs) posted: Tuesday 9/1/26
– Zoom information sessions: Friday 9/4/26 and Monday 9/7/26
– Letters of Intents (LOIs) due (ECD, CR, PD): Tuesday 9/15/26
– Full Proposal Invitations sent: Thursday 9/17/26
– All proposals due (ECD, CR, PD, Seed, STAR, NEIT, CCRI): Wednesday 12/2/26
– Email notifications of intent to award: Late January 2027

In addition, Bongsup and I will soon be reaching out to schedule a meeting with OSP and EC representatives as a check-in and to update you on our recent meeting with the External Advisory Committee and the URI senior administration. We do this to coordinate our collective efforts and also in lieu of asking EC representatives to file reports (which is a requirement of the 2024-29 INBRE FOA).

Best regards,

Brett
