RI-INBRE Purchases New Instrumentation for Single Cell and Spatial Omics

RI-INBRE has completed the purchase of two instruments for the CRCF and MIC that will allow our researchers to conduct single cell and discovery level spatial omics experiments.  These instruments will be housed in the CRCF and core personnel are currently being trained on their use.

10X Genomics Chromium X for Single Cell Assays.  The Chromium X is 10X

Genomics’ next generation single cell system, allowing for low-to-high throughput single cell assays using the latest 10X Genomics chemistries and analysis of millions of cells.  With this instrument, users can conduct assays for gene expression (RNA-seq), chromatin accessibility (ATAC-seq), multiomic ATAC + gene expression, and single cell immune profiling.  You can find more information on the Chromium X at 10X Genomics’ site (Link).

10X Genomics Visium CytAssist for Discovery Spatial Omics Assays.  The 10X Visium HD platform allows for discovery spatial omics.  Using standard tissue slice methods, users can perform gene expression or gene-protein expression analyses on the same samples used for microscopy applications.  When combined with single cell data from the Chromium X, users will be able to study gene expression at single cell resolution in a spatial context which can then be used to inform more advanced in situ spatial analyses.  The Visium CytAssist instrument simplifies the process of transferring tissue samples to Visium slides.  You can find more information on the Visium platform and the CytAssist at 10X Genomics’ site (Link).

Initial training on the instruments will be limited to core personnel and a few current users, and then future training will be offered by Janet Atoyan (instrumentation) and Chris Hemme (bioinformatics).

We are very interested in potential use cases of these instruments and are very interested in hearing from the user community on what types of experiments they would like to run.  Please fell free to contact us at any time for more information (Dr. Ang Cai (CRCF Director, angcai@uri.edu), Janet Atoyan (CRCF Lab Manager,jatoyan@uri.edu ), Dr. Chris Hemme (MIC Director, hemmecl@uri.edu ))
