CCRI Biotechnology Certificate Program

Who we are

The Community College of RI is the largest community college in New England with four campuses across the state.  The student population is diverse and consists of new and returning college students looking to acquire meaningful skills and knowledge while furthering their education.  The CCRI Biotechnology Certificate Program offers students a portable skill-set that can give them the opportunity to work in biotechnology or related industries.  The program can be completed in under a year, and focuses on hands-on techniques that are highly valued in the industry. Some students choose to go directly into the workforce while others continue their education at CCRI or transfer to the URI Biomanufacturing program.

What we offer

  • The chance for high school students to visit during planned workshops and get some hands-on experience in biotechnology.
  •  Opportunity to work in the biotech prep lab to gain additional experience in preparing common reagents solutions, setting up and maintaining equipment, and the planning workflow in the laboratory.
  •  Articulation with high schools that have a biotech program and have qualified instructors that can mimic what we do in the CCRI biotech program.
  •  The possibility that equipment and supplies may become available as donations from industry.

 Key needs

  • Opportunities to work with large scale or high end instrumentation that is unavailable to the program.
  • Contacts, guest speakers, and tours from industry to enhance our curriculum.
  • High school biotechnology programs to promote collaboration and make high school students aware of the opportunities in the biotechnology field.
  • Collaborations with researchers that can share information and ideas with students interested in research.
