Biography

Scott R. Larson was born on 10 June 1950 to Arthur and Maureen Larson. Scott grew up in North Kingstown, Rhode Island and was a 1968 graduate of North Kingstown High School, where he was an outstanding student and member of the basketball team. He entered the University of Rhode Island in September 1968, where he participated in the Army ROTC Program, was designated a “Distinguished Military Graduate” and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant, Military Police Corps, United States Army, upon graduation from URI in 1972.

Lieutenant Larson’s company grade assignments included: the Military Police Officer’s Basic Course, Fort Gordon, Georgia; Platoon Leader, 504 Military Police Company, Fort Eustis, VA; Commander, 84th Military Police Detachment, Fort Wolters, TX; and Commander, 8th Military Police Company. Upon completion of the Military Police Advanced Course, Captain Larson was selected for another Military Police development position as the Community Provost Marshall, Bad Kreuznach, Germany. As a result of Captain Larson’s outstanding performance, he was again selected as a Company Commander, MP Company, 3rd Infantry Division.

Captain Larson returned to the United States in 1980 as an Assistant Professor of Military Science, University of Rhode Island. He immediately worked to establish a positive climate on campus regarding the URI Army ROTC Program, which resulted in increased enrollment and commissioning of young men and women. Prior to attending Command and General Staff College, Major Larson was selected for a position on the General Staff, Headquarters, U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command. Again Major Larson demonstrated an absolutely masterful performance of orchestrating a multitude of complex projects by the general staff, always attaining mission success.

Major Larson was selected as the Provost Marshall, U.S. Military Community, Furth, Germany. In 1990, LTC Larson, assumed the duties of Division Provost Marshal, 1st Armored Division. During Operation Desert Shield, Scott orchestrated security operations and the control of movement. When fighting commenced, he was in charge of enemy prisoner of war operations. Lieutenant Colonel Scott Larson received the Bronze Star Medal for exceptionally meritorious achievement for his services.

LTC Larson was selected to command the 709th Military Police Battalion, 18th MP Brigade. He was responsible for leading 700 soldiers who supported nine military communities in an area of over 42,000 square miles in Northern Germany. Upon returning to the United States, LTC Larson was assigned as the Chief, Military Police Branch, Army Personnel Center.
Upon completion of the National War College, Colonel Larson was selected Brigade Commander, 89th Military Police Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas. Colonel Scott R. Larson was awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious service while serving as Commander, 89th Military Police Brigade; Provost Marshal, III Corps and Fort Hood, Texas. He was assigned as Provost Marshal, Headquarters, U.S. Forces Command, Fort McPherson, GA on 15 July 1998.

Colonel Scott R. Larson retired from active duty on 30 September 2012, after thirty years of service. He received The Legion of Merit, 1st OLC which cited him for exceptionally meritorious service while serving in positions of great responsibility. His awards include the Legion of Merit with Oak Leave cluster, Bronze Star, Service Medal with five oak leave clusters, Army Commendation Medal with two oak leave clusters, as well as theater medals and ribbons for Desert Shield service. Colonel Larson earned a MS in National Security Strategy and received his MPA in Public Administration from the University of Rhode Island.

In retirement, he continues to serve our soldiers, veterans and their families. Upon retiring from the Army, Scott Larson was appointed to government service and selected as the Chief, Operations Division, Southeast Region, Installation Management Command, Fort McPherson, Georgia. In April 2010, he became the Chief, Security, Plans and Operations, Army Criminal Investigation Laboratory, Fort Gillem, GA. Scott Larson was presented the Department of Army, Superior Civilian Service Award for meritorious service on 20 April 2010.
Colonel R. Larson has spent his entire life serving his community and nation during peace and war. His exemplary devotion to duty, personal bravery and outstanding leadership are in the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the United States Army, and the University of Rhode Island. Colonel Larson is a member of the URI Alumni Association and URI Foundation and has continued to support the Army ROTC Program. Scott and his wife Joyce reside in Peachtree, GA.
