Biography

Private Marcus G. Mullins was born in Hatfield, Massachusetts on 1 September 1891.  He was the son of James Mullins and Catherine Boyle. He entered Rhode Island State College (RISC) in September 1911 with the class of 1915 majoring in Applied Science.  While a student, he participated in the Army ROTC Program.

When the United States entered World War I, there were 562 male students enrolled at Rhode Island State College; 334 left to serve in WW I. Marcus, like so many of his classmates, departed college before he graduated and enlisted in the US Army.  Following Basic Training, he was assigned to the 18^th Company, 5^th Battalion, 151^st Depot Brigade at Camp Devens, Massachusetts.  While performing his duties, he became ill with the Spanish Influenza.  He died from the influenza on 22 September 1918.

A military funeral was held in September 1918 at Saint Mary Cemetery, Northampton, Massachusetts.  Private Marcus G. Mullins, US Army, answered the call to serve his nation with courage and honor during World War I.
