Biography

Colonel Christopher Moylan was born in Mineola, New York and grew up in Woonsocket, Rhode Island where he excelled as a student athlete graduating from Woonsocket High School in 1976. COL Moylan lettered in Football, Basketball, and Baseball and was selected Captain of the Football and Baseball teams. He was also a first team All Class A and Woonsocket area linebacker. He received a degree in Business Administration from the University of Rhode Island in 1981, was commissioned a Second Lieutenant through the ROTC program in the Air Defense Artillery, and was a member of the URI varsity football team.

COL Moylan first served as an Air Defense Command and Control Officer for the 32nd Army Air Defense Command in Europe during the Cold War.  He then was an Air Defense Battery Commander for the 35th ADA Brigade at Fort Ord, California.  He then served as an Assistant Professor of Military Science at URI and active member of the URI Faculty Senate. In this capacity, he personally recruited, trained, and mentored numerous military officers who would later become very successful leaders in the Army.

He was deployed to Korea as an Air Defense operations officer for the 2nd Infantry Division.  Chris was selected as a Task Force Commander for the 1st Infantry Division in Bosnia responsible for conducting Peacekeeping Operations, providing security for Eagle Base and 1st ID Headquarters, and engaging with the local Tuzla community.  He further was assigned as a Crisis Action Planner and Operations officer for the European Command responsible for Noncombatant Evacuation Operations in Liberia and Sierra Leon as well as crisis response actions for the bombings of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania.  Colonel Moylan employed the first Patriot Missile Task Force to Israel.  He further assisted in planning operations for the Kosovo Air War and ongoing operations in Bosnia.  He was selected as a Battalion Commander, training U.S. and Allied officers at the Air Defense Center, Fort Bliss.  He was later assigned as the Director of the Air Defense Test Directorate.  He was further responsible for supporting the Fort Bliss Rear Detachment operations during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

COL Moylan was selected to serve as G3, Chief of Operations and later Chief of Staff for the newly activated 94th Army Air and Missile Defense Command at Fort Shafter, Hawaii.  Here he was responsible for coordinating and conducting Joint and Multinational Air and Missile Defense across the Pacific.

COL Moylan received a Master’s Degree from the Naval War College. His awards include the Legion of Merit, Defense and Army Meritorious Service Medals, Joint Service and Army Commendation Medals, Joint Service and Army Achievement Medals, and the Army Parachutist badge, among other awards.

After retiring in 2009, COL Moylan became a Program Manager with General Dynamics Information Technology responsible for training soldiers in the Pacific. He also served as the lead assessments planner with Camber Corporation and with Booz Allen Hamilton to develop doctrine for the Multi Domain Task Force concept.

COL Moylan continues to serve as a volunteer for the local Hawaii and Military Family communities. He and his wife Susan are Wish Granters for Make a Wish Hawaii. He is also the lead organizer for the annual Hawaii Coast Artillery Command Remembrance Ceremony held on December 7th at Joint Base Hickam and Pearl Harbor. COL Moylan is married to the former Susan Mallari, also from Woonsocket, and they have three children: Chris, Katy, Lauren, and five grandchildren. COL Moylan and Susan currently reside in Ewa Beach, Hawaii.
