Biography

MSG Schoonover, Kyle was born in Bradenton, Florida on 16 November 1989. He enlisted into the United States Army as an 19D Calvary Scout on 10 July 2008. He graduated from Fox Troop, 5^th Squadron, 15^th Cavalry Regiment (OSUT) Fort Knox, Kentucky.

MSG Schoonover was assigned to C TRP, 3^rd Squadron, 7^th Cavalry regiment, 2^nd HBCT, Fort Stewart, Georgia in December of 2008. He held positions as a Dismount, Driver, Gunner, and Dismounted Team Leader. MSG Schoonover deployed with 3-7 Cav to Iraq in 2009 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Afghanistan in 2012 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Upon his return from Afghanistan MSG Schoonover was assigned to 1^st Squadron, 14^th Cavalry Regiment, 2^nd SBCT, Fort Lewis, Washington. He was assigned as a Team Leader and Squad Leader and participated in multiple training rotations through the National Training Center.

In 2016, MSG Schoonover was once again assigned to Fort Stewart in the 6^th Squadron, 8^th Cavalry Regiment as a Squad Leader and Platoon Sergeant. MSG Schoonover deployed with 6-8 Cav to Ukraine in support of Joint Multinational Training Group Ukraine (JMTG-U).

MSG Schoonover was then assigned as an Observer, Controller, Trainer (OC/T), with 1-360^th Infantry Battalion, 5^th Armored Brigade, Fort Bliss, Texas in August of 2018. While assigned as an OC/T, MSG Schoonover mobilized National Guard units from across the United States for various missions around the world.

In 2021, MSG Schoonover was assigned to 4^th Battalion, 70^th armor regiment as the Reconnaissance Platoon Sergeant. While assigned as a Platoon Sergeant, MSG Schoonover deployed to the Republic of South Korea for a nine-month rotation. Upon return from Korea, MSG Schoonover would assume responsibility of HHC, 4-70^th AR, 1ABCT, 1AD as the Company First Sergeant.

MSG Schoonover was then assigned to the 2^nd Brigade Cadet Command and currently serves as the Senior Military Science Instructor in July of 2026.

MSG Schoonover’s awards and decorations include: Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (7), Army Achievement Medal (5), Army Good Conduct Medal (5), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (4), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2), Nato Medal, and Combat Action Badge.
