Biography

Alana Bibeau is a public sociologist and Teaching Professor of Sociology. At URI, she also serves as Academic Advisor in Sociology and teaches courses in Gender and Women’s Studies.

Dr. Bibeau’s expertise is in reproduction and birth, midwifery and doula care, reproductive justice, and maternal health disparities. She teaches intro and theory courses in SOC and GWS, as well as courses on gender, work, and families; health, illness and medical care; and reproduction.

In 2006 she completed doula training at the former Seattle Midwifery School (now the Simkin Center of Allied Health Professions at Bastyr University). She is a Certified Doula and serves on the Board of Directors for the Brown/Fox Point Early Childhood Education Center.
