Soheyl Amini

Biography

Dr. Soheyl Amini received his undergraduate degree in social sciences from the National University of Iran. He then continued his higher education in the United States where he received an M.A. in sociology from Ohio University, and his PhD in sociology from the Ohio State University. Dr. Amini’s research interests have included: sociology of the Middle East and Islam, social movements and social change, global terrorism, and globalization, the internet, and the new forms of computer- mediated communications.

Before engaging in full-time academic endeavor, Dr. Amini was the president of Spectrum Education & Consulting Inc., where he consulted various businesses in the area of computer systems implementation and technological communication tools to meet business and professional needs – including training in specific software suites. Additionally, Dr. Amini has worked in the financial services industry in New York and London. During his career in the private sector, he also held various visiting lecturer and adjunct positions in sociology.

In his most recent full-time teaching engagement, Dr. Amini taught a variety of courses in social and behavioral sciences while living in the Asia-Pacific region (Japan and South Korea) and Europe (Germany). Dr. Amini has extensive experience in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses on a variety of platforms – including synchronous, asynchronous, blended, and the traditional face-to-face modalities.
