The Student Affairs Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Steering Committee, through active listening and an open mind, will work together to help each other and the Division to understand, promote, and advocate for social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in the Division of Student Affairs. The Committee will welcome and recognize the work of those outside of their Division and will continue to work with the Chief Diversity Officer and Community, Equity, and Diversity staff. The Committee will report to the Vice President of Student Affairs, representing a collective voice that will advise on actionable items in becoming a more inclusive and anti-racist Division. We acknowledge that we gather as the University of Rhode Island on the traditional land of the Niantic and Narragansett people in past and present, and honor with gratitude the land itself and the people who have stewarded it throughout the generations. This calls us to commit to continuing to learn how to be better stewards of the land we inhabit as well.
