COMMITTEE DISCUSSION:

 

College Republicans: CPAC

 

o   Annual Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington DC over March 14th – 16th

  • attended for the last 7 years
  • big names in the world of Conservative politics

o   $40/student (4 confirmed students)

  • may be lowered if 50+ students from RI attend

o   Train tickets – $65 each way

  • Already looked at Buses and will look at the cost via Air

o   Accommodations at the Gaylord National Resort Hotel

  • 1 room for 3 nights
  • 5 nights : March 13th – 16th
  • The convention is held at the Gaylord National Resort
  • Prices for other nearby/comparable hotels is about the same
  • All female URI group attending

o   Benefits to campus:

  • gain contacts/networking
  • reaffirming principles of the group
  • bring back ideas to campus

o   We can approve as finance committee since it’s less than $1000

  • we do not have that amount in the travel contingency right now so we’ll have to do a category transfer

o   Passed: 7-0-1

o   Lanoie abstaining because of prior involvement in College Republicans

 

 

Slam poetry: Professional Slam Poet

 

o   Kevin_gemmell@my.uri.edu – “Contact SEA to get help with Event planning”

o   1.5-2 hour show

o   End of March to beginning of April

o   Contacted 3 poets

  • Writer’s Block
  • “Look for local artists from Providence”

o   Costs

  • SEC could cosponsor/fund the event
  • Asking for $75 for advertising/printing

o   as a new organization, they don’t have a budget yet

  • Asking for $1850 for the poets
  • Asking for $75 for setting up in Swan Hall

o   Since the event isn’t yet fully planned, we will need to get hard numbers before we can approve the contingency

 

 

 

Musicians Guild – Gaming Convention Concert

 

o   Collaboration between Gaming and Musicians’ Guild

o   Artist: FreezePop

o   2 local bands

o   Talked before about how Musician’s Guild should be getting local bands

  • Boston is still local enough

o   Gaming Club moved the convention to February 15th

  • Friday night in the Ballroom starts between 6 – 7pm

o   Concert is the headliner event for the convention

o   Asking for $1,500

  • only ~$500 left in Alcohol Free Contingency
  • we can move from Alcohol Contingency to Programming Contingency

o   Open to people not just those in the convention

  • Free event

o   Union is booked the entire weekend for the Gamer Con

o   Passed: 8-0-0 $1500 to book FreezePop

 

SAWA – Hair Show

 

o   7th year for the Hair Show

o   Asking for $12,273.95

  • $3,373.95 for the Host – a popular and famous person in the African Community

o   He’s coming from London

o   T-Boy – Nigerian Comedian “Don’t Jealous me”

  • Hair Products etc, need to be new every year (cannot use the old stuff)
  • Prices went up for hair products
  • Tickets are General $10 URI $7 VIP $20
  • Last year, SAWA made $2,000

o   Changing to the Rams den because the Ballroom did not fit everyone

  • Holds twice as much as the ballroom
  • Raising more money because it can fit more people in the room

o   Extra funds goes to St. Judes by asking for donations

o   Theme: Danger zone

  • This year, new outfits – more expensive theme

o   $700 Allows for creativity and artistry for the designers

  • Props – Casket, Straight Jackets, Male Models as animals, stretcher, hair foams, pipes cleaners
  • Flier design: $200 for the Coming Soon flier, the & the and the photoshoot
  • If the host doesn’t generate his cost, then the act may not be worth it

o   SAWA: confident we can earn back the cost

o   DJ will be playing for the Show and the After Party 6-9 10-2

  • 7 Hours

o   All the artists are volunteer

o   Money goes to the Material

o   Toni & Guy Hair School may be bringing volunteers

o   Last year, $100 dollars for the fabric

o   Makeup artist is now licensed so she costs more now

o   6-7 of work hours

  • Passed: 7-0-0

 

 

Asian Student Association [ASA] will come next week to get money for travel

 

  • We have 5 grand in Programming and $500 in travel

o   We need to do a Category Transfer

o   The current contingency budgeting leaves 40,000 less than last year

  • Motion to move 40,000 from Tax to Programming contingency

o   In Spring 2011, all together, we spent $45,550

o   In Spring 2012, all together we spent $38,430

  • Motion to move 6,000 from Tax to Travel Contingency

o   Travel contingency money will be immediately considered

  • Over the weekend will be the budgeting stuff

o   Monday we will first go over requests then the budgeting

  • We may need to meet double sessions or meet earlier and do a longer session

o   “Get ready for budgets. It’ll be fun…”
