- Aquarium Club
- Who attended: President, Secretary, Freshman Class Representative
- Meeting time and place: currently in the library at 5 pm.
- Members – 22
- Elections held to our standards: yes
- Purpose: Give students within the university a more hands on approach with aquariums and aquarium systems. Give students more experience and knowledge on aquariums.
- Goals: set up a handful of aquarium tanks and breed Cherry Shrimp as a resource for learning. Have people come on Earth Day to lean about aquatic life. Eventually create a closer relationship with university departments and get oversight from professors.

- Talent Development Student Board
- Appealing Funding Status recommendation
- SOARC changed the recognition status of the group in the fall re-recognition process from funded to unfunded.
- Talent Development Student Board is inclusive of non-TD students as much as TD students. Talent Development does not provide funding to the student group.
- Appealing Funding Status recommendation
- The only thing done in conjunction with the Talent Development is summer volunteer events.
- The group has been reaching out to schools and other multicultural student organizations to be role models and positive influences.
- The name Talent Development is more to reference the history of the group rather than the relation to any university department.
- The group is open-minded and open-discussion based to talk about things happening in the community and the URI community. Discusses things about things that can be changed to better the community.
- The group was originally funded as it was recognized as an identity group.
- Change in recognition was in part due to the mission statement stating that the group advocates on behalf of the Talent Development Program.
- The group is willing to change the name of the group to distance itself from the Talent Development Program.
- The group has submitted the request for appeals within the necessary timeline.

- Purpose: Help students learn Korean language and Korean culture.
- Goals: Previous president did not complete re-recognition. Does Korean drum shows. Has been invited to culture shows in Providence to perform Korean drums.

- Academic Committee Chair
- Is in charge of the committee and its responsibilities: education standards requirements, course availability, library, etc. Spring term is more transitioning: new academic chairs are expected to know the student manual to be able to provide consultations for students during the final exams. Actively seeks issues within the university, interacts with faculty senate. Ensure that faculty senate nominations are done promptly. Talks with faculty to encourage students to complain about academic issues to the student senate. Does a lot of work over the summer to address academic issues especially about online classes. Holds 4 office hours weekly in addition to special committee meetings with university faculty and administration. Mainly accessible via email.
- When pursuing academic complaints: utilized OMBUD office to assess situations. Bylaws specify that the position is more to communicate student issues rather than outright solve the problems.
- Only contact deans when the professor does not address the academic complaint. Relationship to the deans of colleges is mostly through the academic liaison to the college.
- Faculty Senate: Senate President has a seat in the faculty senate: currently delegated to the academic chair. The committee goes to the faculty senate to observer the functions. Members of the faculty senate appoint members to the faculty senate committees.
- Holds faculty administrators more accountable to their actions.
- Importance to the University: provides checks and balances at the university. Takes student complaints and submits them to the Dean and Provost and request them to fix outstanding issues.

- WRIU
- About the group
- WRIU is the university radio station. WRIU is a student run station whose purpose is to educate students. WRIU teaches students how to operate equipment and run a radio station. WRIU is the last privately run station in RI. Listenership of 3000 people at any given moment. Has been on campus for 77 years.
- Election procedures is in accordance to Student Senate standards.
- General Manager
- General manager position has been elected to senate standards. Is on-call even during summer months.
- Oversees the entire Station :RM, RIU2, Sports, Production, Business , PR/Social Media. Oversees executive staff and general staff. Required office hours are 2 hours a week; actual is more like 2 hours a day. Plan the yearly Radiothon to raise funding. Organize and plans events such as First Night.
- Inspecting executive board members: had an incident where an executive member did not fulfill their duties and was dismissed.
- Takes on additional duties during the transition of new members into executive positions.
- Summer duties: had a video-conference to impeach an problematic radio host. Pays bills.
- Events: DJ’s for Relay for Life. First Night- holds booth to attract new students.
- Radio station could not function without the General Manager.

- Business Manager
- Effectively the treasurer of WRIU. Does the budgeting for the group. Pays the bills. Is in charge of purchasing. Currently trying to replace a large quantity of equipment. Pays stipends. Is one of two people with signatory powers. All budgetary decisions are made between the Business Manager and the General Manager. Does the final authorization for broadcasting any underwriting announcements. Creates the budget and makes projections of impending expenses for the upcoming year. Prepares financial reports of all current and upcoming expenses. Fills out grants for station expenses.
- A required position for the station to function.

- FM Program Director
- Has jurisdiction over anything that is broadcast over the FM radio from the studio. Creates the programming schedule for the FM broadcasts and fills any gaps. Has responsibility over staff contracts and address any issues. Prepared for events such as the 125 university anniversary. Handle the disciplinary process. Had to fire a DJ who did not fill contractual obligations. Does 168 hours a week. Is on call 24 hours daily.
- When there are gaps in the schedules, find replacement for empty spots. Interview students for their qualifications.
- Makes formal rules about broadcast policy such as removing broadcasters from shows if they do not show up. Broadcasters must contact the FM director before the show if unable to make it to the broadcast. The FM director is responsible for filling the dead air.
- Ensure that FCC regulations are enforced: monitor shows and check through archives to ensure that radio is within the regulations of the FCC.

- Sports Director
- Current director transferred into the position over winter break.
- Oversees the scheduling of broadcasts and ensure that the go on properly. The radio has at least 20 broadcasts a semester.
- 20-30 hours weekly on call
- In charge of 17 members in the sports department. Schedules meetings for the students under the purview. Oversees the contracts of the members. Trains and prepares students for broadcasting. The university does not provide education on how to broadcast.
- In charge of all sports in conjunction with RIU2.
- Covers strictly URI sports. No other radio station covers the baseball games.
- The position has had to take disciplinary action in the past for broadcasters who have not performed their duties.
- Many RIU2 broadcasters move up to FM sports broadcasting. RIU2 is an introductory role to sports broadcasting for many students.

- Production Manager
- Works in conjunction with the DJs and the URI community to create PSA.
- Promote campus clubs and the WRIU station. Brings in live acts and interview. Researches the people for interview material. Prepares the studios and informs the acts about policies.
- Train staff members about the workings of the studios.
- PSA are necessary for WRIU to maintain the commercial-free status.
- Does rewiring of equipment, taking inventory of equipment, installing of new equipment. Notes and documents changes to the studio so that everyone knows what has changed.
- Works with a variety of different people to record what they need and edit it for radio broadcast.
- Provides an outlet for on-campus organizations to broadcast what they need to.
- Sets up the studios, records interview/PSAs, and edits them for broadcast (add music/sound effects).
- Recording and editing PSA usually takes around 3/3.5 hours. Interview can take 10-12 hours.
- The studio has about 10-12 performers and 30 PSAs per year.
- The interviews add a different value to the station and creates more variety for the listenership.

- RIU2 Program Director
- RIU2 is the online sister station where new broadcasters start out.
- The guidelines for online broadcast are less strict allowing for a greater variety of shows than the FM broadcast.
- Promotes the RIU2 broadcasts.
- Trains new DJs and Broadcasters. All new DJs and Broadcasters start out in the RIU2 studio. Recommends DJs to the FM Director based on work ethic and commitment.
- Makes the program schedule.
- Creates and updates policies. Disciplines broadcasters who break policy.
- Manages emails from group members.
- Directs the communications within the group.
- Viewer statistics are not tracked for online programming. Feedback is received mostly based on word of mouth.
