DISCUSSION:

·         Money to make magnets (stating renters/police rights)

o    Will likely come out to a couple thousand, so will put a bill on the floor in the fall to see about getting the money

·         Went over various renter’s rights/rules and regulation for different renters such as:

o    Quiet hours on the streets between 11pm – 7am

o    Party – 5 or more people on private property (disturbance of the quiet enjoyment of the neighborhood)

o    Permit to have a keg

o    Some rentals allow for pets (may be extra in the lease)

o    No candles, other prohibited items, etc.

·         Off the Brown University website, RI landlord tenant handbook – possible a resource; brought up the prospect of a required reading for renters

·         Police:

·         Discussed laws regarding alcohol, parties, house searches by police such as:

o    If  asking to search your house, renter is allowed to say no

o    Alcohol in plain sight could merit a party or give reason for a police officer to ask to search the property
