United Nations Associations USA- URI

  • Goal: This organization’s main goal is to spread information about The United Nations and wants to take The United Nation’s ideas and bring them to the people of URI. It is an informational club that also plans to get involved in community service.

Finance Chair URI Student Senate

Treasure of the student body and financially responsible for investing and managing the Student Activities Tax. Voting member of the Student Senate. Has the power to fund or freeze organizations based on the bylaws of Student Senate. Has a minimum of 5 office hours per week. Creates a budget calendar to keep everyone in the org aware of what’s happening. Also, created a recently revised finance handbook. Requires organizations that are funded to go through a yearly finance training to keep them up-to date on rules and information. Elected in spring of 2017 through secret ballot. Gave documentation of their position for the past three semesters.

Chief information officer

Main responsibility is taking the general Student Senate meeting minutes, maintain an up to date Student Senate Alumni Network, and manages the weekly agenda for the general meeting. Voted into the organization by secret ballot. Is available anytime through email for fellow senators. Creates quizzes to test the senator’s knowledge of the student senate bylaws. Showed three forms of documentation of their position under student senate. Mandated to fill at least 3 office hours per week.

SOARC Chair URI Student Senate

    Works with student organizations at URI as an impartial arbiter. Helps with events and conflicts associated with the organizations and helps groups operate as a whole. Conducts annual re-recognition for the organizations and conduct Stipend reviews. Has five office hours per week. Works to keep the model constitution up to date. Gave 3 pieces of documentation of their position. Elected by secret ballot.

Academics Chair of URI Student Senate

Academic Chair deals with complaints regarding faculty and students. Attends faculty senate meetings to create a bridge between the students and the faculty. In charge of the liaisons of the academic colleges to keep up to date on current events in the colleges. Also, makes sure that the student body is aware of their academic rights by sending out emails and setting up booths in the library. Has a minimum of 3 hours per week. Elected to The Student Senate through secret ballot.

Chief Executive Officer of student body

Provides direct leadership to The Student Senate. Has liaisons to serve on different committees, campus wide to ensure that the students are served properly. Direct bridge between administration and the students. The position is voted on by the student body as a whole. Power to approve and veto any bills that they feel don’t relate the morals of the university. Also, makes sure that bills are paid on time and employees associated with Student Senate are paid. Is able to nominate cabinet positions. Serves as head of executive committee. Another aspect of this position is that they speak at different events and ceremonies on behalf of the student body. Showed documentation of their position under Student Senate. Minimum of five hours per week.
