They need to come March 26h

Unfunded – currently they may be able to receive funding from CELS. If they cannot receive funding from the academic department, we may be able to recognize them as funded.

League of Legends

  • President, VP, Secretary, and Treasurer present
  • Meetings every Thursday
  • Members: 35 active members. Online community is larger
  • Elections held to our standards
  • What is league of legends? – a video game that consists of 2 teams consisting of 5 members each. The purpose is to take over the other teams base.
  • Purpose – provide students who participate in league of legends with structure. Watch professional matches, compete together in a physical location.
  • Groups reasoning for not being in gaming club – League focuses on this one specific game. League is recognized as a national sport so people can get VISAs to come here and play. People who play league may not consider themselves gamers. Hundreds of thousands of people watch competitions. Gaming club’s

  • mission includes wanting to help people learn about different games. League of Legends is not about exploring different games, it is about this game.
  • Note: This is not an attack on gaming club, it is an very successful group. This group would just function more towards its purpose if it was independent.
  • There is a strong culture aspect to league of legends. It is a game that you can watch and play. The producers of the game, RIOT, has an initiative to create collegiate clubs, but do not fund them. There are centers just for playing league of legends. There are professional players who get a full salary.
  • URI is looking to play against other colleges. Want to have tournaments. Want to have viewing parties for professional matches (watch it just like a football game).
