Academic Background and Research Interests

Cassie is currently a PhD in Education student at URI and a Multilingual Learner Specialist for grades 5th-8th at Excel Academy Rhode Island. Prior to her pursuit of her PhD, Cassie earned her bachelor’s in elementary education and her minor in leadership studies at URI. She then earned her master’s in TESOL also from URI. In addition to her experience working with 5th-8th grade MLLs, Cassie also has experience as a kindergarten and first grade general educator. Her time spent in the classroom has always been working in urban communities with high populations of MLLs. She hopes to pursue research in teacher preparation programs and how these programs can prepare new teachers to better support MLLs in their classrooms.

Personal Interests & Fun Facts

In my free time, I enjoy going to the gym, reading, and art. I love all kinds of crafts like collaging, painting, and journaling. I enjoy trying new restaurants and exploring new places with my friends and family.
