Are you interested in introducing new first year students to the University of Rhode Island? Do you want to work in tandem with a URI 101 instructor to teach your very own class? Do you have what it takes to inspire new students to become academically and socially successful on campus? If so, you should apply to be a URI 101 Mentor!
The Role of the Mentor
You will hold an influential role in helping your class of 20 to 30 first year students in their transition to college. You will create an effective and comfortable partnership with your instructor and become a resourceful team for your students and each other. Working with your instructor, you will create lessons with the following objectives in mind:
- Developing essential academic skills
- Improving personal responsibility
- Encouraging involvement
- Utilizing campus resources
- Academic and career planning
- Importance of civic engagement
- Inclusion and celebrating diversity
Requirements of all URI 101 Mentors include:
- Attending URI 101 Spring Training: Mid-Late April, TBD
- Enrolling in a CSV 302 course taught by approved instructors (Fall 2025)
- Attending and participating in your selected URI 101 course (Fall 2025)

Everyone must complete an application, including returning mentors. Applications close on Wednesday, March 5 at 11:59PM. Late applications will not be considered.

Interview and Selection Process
First time candidates: Will participate in a one-hour small group interview process on either Friday, March 21st, 1-4PM OR Tuesday, March 25th, 9AM-12PM. More information regarding interviews will be released following the application close date.
Returning mentors: No interviews required.
