Workday Myth Busters

As Workday implementation continues, we’ve heard a number of common questions and misconceptions. Here are the facts about what Workday will—and will not—change at URI.

Myth: URI’s Workday project is part of the State of Rhode Island ERP implementation.

Fact: URI’s Workday implementation is a separate project.

Workday will integrate with the State of Rhode Island’s system for payroll processing, but URI is implementing and managing its own Workday environment.

Myth: Workday will replace URI’s student information system.

Fact: eCampus will remain URI’s student information system for the foreseeable future.

Workday will support Human Resources, Finance, Payroll, and faculty-related processes. eCampus will continue to serve as URI’s student system and will integrate with Workday where needed.

Myth: The way departments manage financial information will stay exactly the same.

Fact: URI’s chart of accounts is changing.

As part of the transition to Workday, URI will adopt a new financial structure known as the Financial Data Model (FDM). This new structure will support reporting, budgeting, and financial transactions in Workday.

Myth: Only PeopleSoft HR and Finance users will be affected by Workday.

Fact: Workday will affect many systems and processes across the University.

Systems that currently exchange data with PeopleSoft HR and Finance—including some departmental tools and shadow systems—may require updates or new integrations. Project teams are working with partners across campus to understand impacts and prepare for the transition.
