Council for Research Grants Program

Sponsored by the URI Division of Research and Economic Development, the URI Council for Research offers a competitive grants program designed to support faculty in their research and scholarly pursuits. Small grants in the $1,000 to $15,000 range are awarded annually, with priority given to early career faculty.

Grants are made in two programs: the Proposal Development (PD) Grant Program and the Faculty Career Enhancement (CE) Grant Program. The PD program is intended to provide support for the collection and analysis of data, formulation of models, and other research and scholarly activities that will clearly lead to the submission of proposals for extramural funding. Grants are available across all disciplines.

The CE program is intended to provide support for the enhancement of a faculty member’s artistic, creative, and/or scholarly activities by jump-starting new work and/or for supporting work for which there is little or no extramural funding. Proposals that provide faculty with new skills, tools, and information are particularly encouraged in this program. Grants are available across all disciplines.

Requests for proposals (RFPs) for both the PD and CE programs are issued concurrently, usually at the start of the spring semester, with awards being made in time for a July 1 start date. The most recent RFPs and all application materials can be found in the links at right. For more information and/or proposal development assistance, contact Dr. Karen Markin, Director, Office of Research Development at (401) 874-5971; or email kmarkin@uri.edu
