URI is an institutional member of the Council on Undergraduate Research (, which supports faculty and student development for high-quality undergraduate student-faculty collaborative research, scholarship, and creative activities. More than 700 institutions and over 10,000 individuals belong to CUR. CUR believes that the best way to capture student interest and create enthusiasm for a discipline is through research in close collaboration with faculty members. CUR offers opportunities for faculty professional development in research and curriculum through institutes and workshops.

Conferences provide opportunities for networking and sharing undergraduate research and best practices.  The CUR Quarterly and other publications provide information on undergraduate research activities at various institutions.

CUR also provides information on the importance of undergraduate research to state legislatures, private foundations, government agencies, and the U.S. Congress.
