The Office of the Undergraduate Research is providing grant support for undergraduate research, creative, and artistic projects. This program provides funds to undergraduates to participate in original research or creative or artistic projects of their own design. These projects require supervision by a faculty sponsor.

Proposals will be evaluated by the Undergraduate Research Initiative Committee, composed of faculty and students from various disciplines. Students chosen for support will receive a grant of up to $1,000 to help support his or her project. Any group focused on a single project is eligible for individual project-level funding, i.e., $1,000, plus $200 for each additional student in the group, up to three students total. All undergraduate students in good standing are eligible. This includes both full-time and part-time students. Awards will be offered to students with quality projects representing a wide range of diversity and variety of disciplines within the University.

To apply for a grant, a student (or group of up to three students) will complete and submit a proposal along with a letter of support from a faculty sponsor. For any project involving human subjects or vertebrate animal subjects, the proposal must state whether or not Institutional Review Board (IRB) or, respectively, the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) approval is critical to the project, and provide evidence that approval is being sought where relevant. Click the appropriate links to determine whether your project requires IRB or IACUC approvals.

  • Funds may be used to support projects which include original student research, creative or artistic endeavors
  •  IRB or IACUC approval must be obtained before work on the project begins when required.
  • The student will submit a final report to the faculty sponsor and the Office of Undergraduate Research & Innovation.
  • Grantees are requested to cite this support in any publicity that may result from their project.

Proposals must be submitted by October 16, 2017. Questions? Contact Office of Undergraduate Research at 401-874-5904 or
