Biography

Michael Jagoda was appointed as the Director of Public Safety and Chief of Police in June, 2021, after serving as the Major of URI Police since 2015. Prior to joining URI, Michael served over 22 years with the Connecticut State Police as a commanding officer of numerous operational and administrative divisions. Director Jagoda oversees the Alarm Division, Emergency Management, Fire and Life Safety, Transportation and Parking, University Police, Campus Security and Communications and Technology.

Michael holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Post University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Consumer Affairs from URI. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy, and attended the executive development and leadership training from FBI-LEEDA, U.S.C.G. and the Naval Postgraduate Schools. He also holds several certifications in the fields of fire services and emergency management. He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, R.I. Police Chiefs Association, FBI National Academy, and the R.I. Association of Arson Investigators.
