Samantha Talbot ‘22, a double major in anthropology and history, interned at the Tomaquag Museum in Exeter, RI.
“I have met some extraordinary people who have taught me so much about museum work and collections management, and more importantly about the Narragansett Tribe and native culture,” she says. “I’ve been under the supervision of Anthony Belz, the museum’s collections/archives manager, as well as Brown University PhD Candidate Allyson LaForge. Throughout the semester, I have been able to learn about how to properly handle belongings, how to properly store them, how to catalog them, and just all the basics of collections work. I have been able to learn the histories behind all of the belongings I have worked with, which is honestly my favorite part. It really is such an extraordinary experience to work so closely with belongings that are so significant to the tribe.”
