Collin Treacy ’22 double majored in applied mathematics and mechanical engineering. He says that his mathematics courses helped him understand engineering concepts on a deeper level. “The math department here includes very intelligent and knowledgeable professors that are passionate about what they do,” he says.

Sarah Brown, an assistant professor of computer science, is examining how to prevent artificial intelligence from reinforcing biases. “My research is about how we can adapt machine-learning algorithms and the systems they are embedded in in order to prevent AI from reinforcing patterns of discrimination,” she says.
