College course for vets gets $99,000 federal grant

A $99,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities — given to Clemente Veterans’ Initiative, in partnership with the University of Rhode Island’s College of Arts and Sciences, Trinity Repertory Company and Operation Stand Down RI — will allow continuation of an innovative program serving veterans through the study of history, literature, philosophy and other disciplines.

Fifty high school girls get a taste of science at URI’s fourth Sugar Science Day

Chemistry Professor Mindy Levine has hosted Sugar Science Day since 2016 as way of empowering girls to explore chemistry and other STEM fields. Research has shown that girls start losing interest in science around middle school, and while the majority of college graduates and master’s level graduates are women, their numbers lag in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics professions.
