What makes the College of Arts and Sciences at URI unique?
The arts program at URI is a small but incredibly tight-knit community. Over the past few years, my classmates and I had caring and supportive professors who pushed us to grow creatively, while also maintaining our freedom to explore. I will definitely miss the painting studio—a space which has come to feel like home, where we could feel “comfortably uncomfortable” when experimenting with new ideas and processes.

What accomplishments and activities are you most proud of doing while at URI?
The accomplishment I’m most proud of is probably learning another language, which would not have been possible without the help and encouragement from the French Department and faculty. I was also very happy when I received the Jesse M. Simmons Memorial Scholarship, the David Ketner Memorial Scholarship, as well as the first prize for the URI President’s Office Annual Holiday Card Competition in 2017. (See that art here!)

What research projects, internships, and/or study abroad programs did
you participate in at URI? How did they enhance your education?
Currently, I am doing a design internship at Whalers Brewing Company. It has been a fun learning experience, and I have improved my technical skills in Photoshop and Illustrator, as well as photography. Besides that, I work at the gallery in the Fine Arts Center, which has allowed me to meet and speak to many professional artists and curators.

What do you value about your liberal arts education?
I appreciated that it gave me the opportunity to take a huge variety of courses. The ones that I found the most challenging, but also rewarding, were computer science, micro/macro economics, and philosophy of science.
