Michael Chapman ’20

Major
Chemistry

Fellowship Location
Smith-Oxley Lab, URI

Research Project
Michael worked with two itemizers (ion mobility spectrometers) – machines used to detect trace amounts of energetic materials – for the Smith-Oxley lab. Using different types of swabbing methods, he tested for the most effective way to swab trace amounts of energetic materials.

Faculty Mentor
Dr. Jimmie Oxley, Professor of Chemistry and co-director of URI’s Center of Excellence in Explosives Detection, Mitigation, and Response

“During the 10 weeks of the fellowship, I gained experience analyzing energetic material. It will be invaluable experience for finding a career after college.”
