Project:
Mississippi Gulf Coast French Dialect: An Oral History Study
This project uses interviews of people from the Mississippi Gulf Coast to help preserve memories of the Mississippi Gulf Coast French dialect. This dialect is no longer spoken in everyday life but was once a prevalent form of communication in the region.
Faculty Mentor:
Leslie Kealhofer-Kemp, Professor of French
“As someone of MS French heritage, I personally learned more about my peoples’ history and more about our dialect’s history and usage through the interviews I have conducted so far. I plan to continue interviews for this project throughout the academic year and to publish my findings in the spring of 2026.” – Claire McCullough ’26
