Project:
Literature Review of Ocean Myths and Their Impacts

Laine is conducting a literature review of how oceans (and possibly other bodies of water) impact people culturally through legends and folklore. The work will examine myths and origin stories relating to bodies of water, with an emphasis on how those stories impact and reflect the culture within which they exist. Laine is particularly interested in common themes that may emerge in global cultures in the way ocean myths relate to gender roles, warnings for children, warnings for sailors and other areas.

“This topic is super interesting to me, but during the semester I don’t have time to properly look into it between classes, extracurriculars, and my job. By doing the research during the summer, I have plenty of time to do that.” –Laine Fischer
