Research Project
Leah Hopkins (Narragansett Indian Tribe) conducted historiographic research. She reviewed current scholarship about coastal Indigenous cultures in New England and about Native Whalemen to determine to what extent Indigenous voices were imparted. She also visited museums in southern New England to assess the inclusion and quality of the representation of the Indigenous communities in their exhibits, as well as the curatorial representation of Maritime Indigeneity. She plans to create a curriculum promoting Indigenous history centered on Indigenous voices.
