Workplace Readiness Course

Our faculty have worked hard to create innovative one-credit courses that are responsive to urgent, timely issues, including COVID-19 and racial justice, or address practical concerns such as career preparation. One such course taught in the fall 2020 semester was Workplace Readiness for Social Science Majors, a fully online career readiness workshop designed for social science majors in the College of Arts and Sciences and co-taught by Political Science Department Chair Marc Hutchison and Arts and Sciences Associate Dean Brian Krueger.

The 25 students in the class, who came from all A&S social science majors, created resumes and LinkedIn accounts, wrote elevator pitches, and more. They discussed various workplace and career topics with URI alumni from a wide range of careers during Zoom meetings, many of which became mentoring conversations that continued over email. β€œI am so, so glad I took this course because I learned a great deal along the way,” one student said. β€œIt will definitely benefit and better prepare me for life after college.”

We offer many ways for alumni to stay connected to the College. Learn more here.
