Calling all new part-time faculty! Is this your first, second, or third semester teaching at URI? Strategies & Tools is specifically designed for you and will help prepare you for a successful semester. You will build connections with colleagues, learn more about the URI community and resources, and establish or further develop your teaching practice.
An OPTIONAL 1-hour, synchronous session will be held based on participants’ schedules, during which participants can connect with other PT faculty, ask questions, and discuss teaching-related content.

Tell Your Teaching Story – for CELS (AIN in CELS)
If you have ever had difficulty with writing your teaching statement, this session is for you. Participants will explore research-backed criteria for teaching effectiveness. Then they will practice connecting those criteria to their teaching. Participants will leave with a heuristic they can use to overcome writer’s block when it comes time to write their teaching statement.

Online Pedagogy is a 4-week, asynchronous online workshop designed to give you the background and knowledge of best-practices to enhance and hone your online teaching skills using the Brightspace platform. In just four weeks, you will learn best practices, create a course site, syllabus, course map/schedule, establish your methods of grading, and populate your grade book. Practicing Democracy in Teaching (AIN)
This participatory workshop presented by guest speaker, Nicholas V. Longo, Ph.D, will offer a framework and practical strategies for embedding civic engagement across the curriculum. It draws upon a new publication, Practicing Democracy: A Toolkit for Educating Civic Professionals (AAC&U and Campus Compact), a guide that is divided into 12 lessons that use civic prompts and conversation starters for deliberative dialogue in the classroom.
As we prepare for the 2024 election and its aftermath, the workshop will help educators create opportunities for students of all majors to engage in critical reflection that helps them connect with others across differences and become “civic professionals”—students who are prepared to facilitate inclusive and participatory problem-solving in communities.
