URI Research Foundation awarded Build Back Better Regional Challenge grant, will lead regional coalition to grow ‘blue economy’
The University of Rhode Island Research Foundation, in conjunction with Rhode Island Commerce and a regional team focused on the growing blue economy, has successfully competed against hundreds of regional teams across the country to be selected by the U.S. Economic Development Administration as a finalist in the nation-wide Build Back Better Regional Challenge.
‘The crisis revealed the crisis,’ 2021 Rhode Island Food System Summit focuses on food insecurity during COVID-19 pandemic
During the past year, food insecurity in the United States has reached record levels. According to a report issued by the Rhode Island Community Food Bank last fall, one in four Rhode Island households lacks adequate food, up from one in ten just a few years ago. The steep incline, which is being felt across the nation has been driven, in part, by the COVID-19 global pandemic and its accompanying economic depression. Understanding the role that each of us plays in addressing this growing crisis, the University of Rhode Island convened government, academic, business, and community partners on Jan. 20 as part of its fifth annual Rhode Island Food System Summit.
URI College of Engineering partners with 401 Tech Bridge to assist Rhode Island advanced materials manufacturers
Three Rhode Island companies will soon benefit from faculty expertise at the University of Rhode Island College of Engineering as part of the 401 Tech Bridge Materials Innovation Challenge. Canapitsit Customs and TxV Aerospace Composites, both of Bristol, and Nautilus Defense, a Pawtucket-based small business, were selected as challenge winners from applicants across the country, enabling them to leverage the University’s academic resources and to work with three preeminent advanced materials researchers.
VentilatorProject.Org, R.I. Commerce Corp., URI mount effort to collect sleep apnea machines for pandemic fight
VentilatorProject.Org has joined the Rhode Island Commerce Corp., the University of Rhode Island, the Rhode Island Department of Health, fire stations and other hospital and industry partners across the state to collect and refurbish sleep apnea machines to serve as supplementary equipment to hospitals that are treating patients affected by COVID-19.
Hexagon supports advanced manufacturing at the University of Rhode Island
The University of Rhode Island and Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division jointly announced a $4 million gift for the URI College of Engineering. The gift comes in the form of state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies that will advance research undergraduate and graduate programs.
