Dr. Chang received his Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering (Environmental Fluid Mechanics) from Cornell University in August 2017. Prior to joining the faculty at URI, he worked as an Assistant Professor at the Disaster Prevention Research Institute of Kyoto University in Japan.
Motivated by a profound sense of duty to address pressing coastal challenges posed by rising sea levels and extreme weather events, he now leads the group to explore the potential of natural and nature-based solutions to mitigate coastal hazards and enhance resilience. His research activities embrace a multifaceted methodology that integrates lab experiments, numerical modeling, and fieldwork.
