Specializations

In addition to the main course requirements for all CMB majors, the following additional requirements apply for each of specialization:

Biochemistry Option

  • BIO/CMB 341: Principles of Cell Biology
  • CMB 412: Advanced Biochemistry I
  • one additional 300-level or above CMB course determined in consultation with your advisor

Bioinformatics Option

  • CMB 320: Introduction to Computational Biology
  • CMB 450: Practical Tools for Molecular Sequence Analysis
  • CMB 495: Seminar in Cell and Molecular Biology
  • CSC 201: Programming with Data
  • CSC 211: Computer Programming
  • CSC 212: Data Structures and Abstractions
  • at least 1 credit of a Cell and Molecular Biology laboratory course above the 300-level and at least 9 credits in specialty concentration courses

Microbiology Option

  • CMB 333: Immunology and Serology
  • CMB 413/415: Advanced Microbiology I/Lab
  • CMB 414/416: Advanced Microbiology II/Lab
  • CMB 495: Seminar in Cell and Molecular Biology
  • one course selected from CMB 412, 432, 435, 450 or 576
  • an additional 9 credits of 300-level or above CMB courses; or BIO/CMB 341, or CMB 437.

General Option

  • BIO/CMB 341: Principles of Cell Biology

  • 4 credits CMB laboratory courses
  • as part of the 29 total additional credits, 18 can be selected from any 300-level or above CMB course and BPS 535 and PHY430
