Based on emerging projections of the continuation of COVID-19 into summer 2020, it has become clear that URI will be unable to offer in-person (i.e., face-to-face) instruction in summer sessions 1, 2, or 3. We are, nevertheless, committed to providing a robust array of interesting and relevant summer offerings designed to meet the needs of our students.
All Summer Sessions 2020 courses will be offered using distance instruction modalities and will be offered as fully asynchronous online courses or mixed asynchronous/synchronous online courses. Potential exceptions for summer internships, directed study, and/or undergraduate/graduate research courses will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Visit Summer Sessions for updates and course listings.
We recognize that this continues to be a challenging time for both students and faculty. URI will continue to offer vital student support services remotely or for students who need to remain on campus, such as health services, counseling, and housing and dining.
URI is committed to providing faculty support for course modifications to ensure continued student learning opportunities over the summer. As such, we invite and strongly encourage faculty who have formally approved and fully developed online courses to make those courses available to students this summer. Resources from the Office for the Advancement of Teaching & Learning are available to support conversion of existing 14-week course templates to a 5-week (sessions 1 and 2) or 10-week (session 3) summer session template. In addition, for those willing and able to convert a scheduled in-person summer session course or to modify a course that already incorporates some “remote” approaches, the ATL will provide resources and support to facilitate that conversion to a summer session format.
