Awards and Eligibility Criteria
Undergraduate Student Award for Academic Excellence
- Undergraduate student must be enrolled in a degree program and enrolled in at least 12 credits
- Student’s contribution makes a positive impact on academic contributions, research, or experiential education or projects related to diversity, equity and inclusion
- Student maintains a 3.0 or higher GPA
- The student is courageous, honest, credible, focused, empower others, and inspires shared vision
Undergraduate Student Award for Community Excellence
- Undergraduate student in a degree program and enrolled in at least 6 credits
- Student’s contribution makes a positive impact on the University community
- Be in good academic standing (2.0 GPA or above)
- Should demonstrate outstanding leadership characteristics and skills such as motivation, enthusiasm, self-reliance, problem solving, and organizational management
- The student is courageous, honest, credible, focused, empower others, and inspires shared vision
- Student makes a significant contribution to their club/group/organization
- Student should hold a specific leadership position in the group (if applicable)
Student Organization Excellence Award
- This award recognizes an organization which worked/works with exceptional effectiveness to accomplish a specific task
- The organization must be 90% URI students who are currently enrolled in at least 6 credits
- The organization functions effectively, demonstrated by having a clear sense of purpose and goals, aspiring to standards of excellence, effective leadership which focuses on collaboration and inclusion, empowered organizations, support and recognition of organization members, and competent and skilled organization members
- The organization must be recognized by a URI department or Student Senate recognized and have an advisor or dean endorse the organization
Graduate Student Academic Excellence Award
- Graduate student in a degree program currently enrolled in at least 6 credits
- Be in good academic standing (3.0 GPA or above)
- Student demonstrates outstanding leadership characteristics and skills such as motivation, enthusiasm, self-reliance, problem solving, and organizational management
- Student is courageous, honest, credible, focused, empowers others, and inspires shared vision
Graduate Student Community Excellence Award
- Graduate student in a degree program currently enrolled in at least 6 credits
- Student’s contribution makes a positive impact on the University community
- Must be in good academic standing
- Student demonstrates outstanding leadership characteristics and skills such as motivation, enthusiasm, self-reliance, problem solving, and organizational management
- Student is courageous, honest, credible, focused, empower others, and inspires a shared vision
- Student makes a significant contribution to their club/group/organization
Staff/Administrative Excellence Award
- Staff/Administrator is a full or part-time employee of URI
- Staff makes a significant and positive contribution and works to build a supportive and inclusive campus and/or community across the boundaries of culture, identity, and discipline
Faculty Excellence in Research Award
- Faculty is a full or part-time employee of URI
- Faculty makes a significant and positive contribution to research that enriches our campus and/or community across the boundaries of culture, identity, and discipline
Faculty Excellence in Community Award
- Faculty is a full or part-time employee of URI
- Faculty makes a significant and positive contribution to the URI community and works to build a supportive and inclusive campus and/or community across the boundaries of culture, identity, and discipline
Faculty Excellence in Inclusive Teaching Award
- Faculty is a full or part-time employee of URI
- Course design reflects intentional inclusive practices Course materials reflect diverse perspectives
- Teaching practices use inclusive, effective or innovative methods to support learning for all students
- Course materials are accessible to all learners and follows universal design practices
- Faculty reflects upon how topics in justice, equity, diversity and inclusion as well as inclusive pedagogies can inform course design and teaching methods
Inclusive Excellence Lifetime Achievement Award (Selected by the President)
- Alum/friend of the University/Community member
- Must have significant affiliation with the University (alum, faculty member, staff member, donor, etc)
- Substantial Life Work
- Role Model
- Lasting Impact
- Nominee must have demonstrated and significant contributions to advancing community, equity, diversity, and inclusion
- Contributions must be exemplary and/or innovative
- Contributions must show impact
- Contributions must be relevant to or aligned with URI’s values and/or strategic priorities
