Electrical and Computer Engineering (ELECOMP) Capstone Design
Program Overview
Welcome to the ELECOMP Capstone Design Program for Electrical (ELE) and Computer (COMP) engineers at the University of Rhode Island. The program promotes dynamic collaboration between senior-level engineering students and industry sponsors to design, build, program, and test solutions to real-world problems.
Students gain valuable experience applying theory to practice, while industry sponsors benefit from introductions to young talent and innovative solutions. This experience prepares students for positions with top companies and provides solutions to industry’s most pressing problems.
Bridging the gap from classroom to industry is critical. The ELECOMP Capstone Program exposes students to real-world challenges: external schedules, poor documentation, vendor dependencies, decision making, and risk taking—experiences not found in simulated projects.
Students learn not only to apply engineering skills but also how professionals operate in the field. This dual-emphasis allows graduates to connect with companies and discover opportunities first-hand, leading to many successful career pairings. The value of these connections cannot be overstated.
