You’re almost there! As you prepare for Commencement, here’s everything you need to know to get ready for your big day. This section includes important College of Engineering information and deadlines. Take a moment to review each item carefully. We’re here to help make your graduation celebration smooth and memorable.
Exit Survey
All COE Graduating Seniors are required to complete the Exit survey.
Register for Commencement Ceremony
Be sure to register for the ceremony. This produces a GradRoll card as well (to show your name on the big screen as you cross the stage.)
Honor Cords for Graduation
If you are eligible for Graduation Honors, you will receive an email with instructions on how and where to pick up your cord.
A cumulative GPA of 3.30 is required for Cum Laude; 3.50 for Magna Cum Laude; and 3.70 for Summa Cum Laude. Please note – this is a conditional designation provided by Enrollment Services based on cumulative GPAs at the end of your last completed semester for the purposes of cord distribution and printing the Commencement Program. Graduation honors noted in the Program are subject to change once final grades are recorded and a final honors GPA is calculated. Official honors status will be reflected on diplomas, which are mailed directly to graduates. More details here.
First-Generation College Student Cords
Rhody F1rst invites all first-generation college students to celebrate this achievement with a graduation cord. You can pick yours up in Roosevelt Hall, Room 117. (Note: TD Scholars will receive their cords during their exit meeting with their TD advisors.)
Commencement Tickets
Graduating students receive 10 guest tickets for the ceremony. There is a waiting list for spare tickets. While we cannot guarantee it, we do hope to be able to accommodate waiting list requests closer to the date of the event. Please email Jill Jolicoeur if you would like to be added to the list and be sure to indicate how many you need.
Offboarding from Gmail, Google Drive, OneDrive, etc.
Please see message from ITS which informs you that your URI Gmail and Microsoft Office accounts will be terminated within six months of graduation. Please do not let this sneak up on you! Now is the ideal time to download and/or transfer any documents which you would like to access in the future and to share out your personal email account with faculty mentors and friends. In particular, be sure to create back-ups of your research projects or anything you might need as samples for a graduate school application in the future. Along these lines, the exit survey above is also a way for us to record your non-URI Email in case we need to reach out to you in the future.
ATTENTION CIVIL ENGINEERS! As a requirement for degree conferral, all Civil Engineering majors must submit evidence of an FE exam attempt. More information is available here. This proof should be emailed to coe-forms-group@uri.edu.
QUESTIONS ON CAPS, GOWNS, VENUE DETAILS, etc.? A centralized logistics team coordinates all commencement ceremonies. Most questions are duly answered on the Commencement website.
QUESTIONS ON YOUR DEGREE COMPLETION AND PAPERWORK? The degree requirements verification and conferral process happens at the College level under the oversight of Assistant Dean Kathleen Maher. If you are submitting a form, please send to coe-forms-group@uri.edu . If you have any questions related to degree completion and conferral, please email kmaher@uri.edu.
