Laura Stiffler

Biography

Laura is a Ph.D. candidate and specializes in U.S. American modernist literature, African American literature, and the Black Arts Movement. Her research interests include cognitive psychoanalysis; ethnicity, race, and indigenous studies; and the notion of identity including gender, sexuality, queer theory, and feminism. Much of Laura’s current research seeks to create a conversation between William Faulkner and James Baldwin based on ideas of endurance, survival, and bearing witness. Prior to coming to URI, she received her master’s degree from UMass Boston in 2020.

In addition to her research and teaching responsibilities, Laura serves as an English TA Mentor and the Administrative Assistant to the Director for URI’s Center for the Humanities.
