Talvikki Ansel

Biography

Talvikki Ansel is the author of the poetry collections My Shining Archipelago (Yale University Press, The Yale Series of Younger Poets), Jetty & other poems (Zoo Press), and Somewhere in Space (The Ohio State University Press / The Journal Award in Poetry). Her poems have appeared in the journals Poetry, FIELD, Colorado Review, The Kenyon Review, Orion, Blackbird, The Yale Review, and Hotel Amerika. Her work is also included in the anthologies Firsts: 100 Years of Yale Younger Poets (Yale University Press), The Hide-and-Seek Muse (Drunken Boat), and The Echoing Green: Poems of Fields, Meadows, and Grasses (Everyman’s Library, Knopf).

She received a MFA in Creative Writing from Indiana University. Her awards include a Lannan Foundation residency, a Pushcart Prize, a Wallace Stegner Fellowship in creative writing, and writing residencies at the James Merrill House and Connecticut Audubon’s Trail Wood.

As a creative writing instructor, Talvikki Ansel’s previous teaching positions have taken her to The University of Texas at Austin, Vermont College’s low-residency MFA program, and Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA.
