Yamaila Diaz

Biography

Yamaila Diaz is a first generation student enrolled in the English ABM Program at the University of Rhode Island. She is passionate about history, particularly Tudor England, and is currently researching Renaissance literature with a focus on the Tudor Monarch.

As an undergraduate studying English and Sociology, she has explored Women and Contemporary literature, creative writing, and epic poetry. Her undergraduate thesis, “Universal Love Leads to Foolish Decisions,” used John Milton’s Paradise Lost to argue that Adam and Eve’s love for each other was greater than their love for god. Her work earned recognition when she won the Katherine A. Cross-Das ’86 and Dr. Debendra K. Das ’84 Graduate English Scholarship.

Yamaila is proud of her Puerto Rican heritage and enjoys spending time with her family. She also likes to travel; visiting destinations like the Bahamas, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. Currently, she works as an Office Assistant in the College of Arts and Sciences and is a peer mentor for first year students.
