Geosciences Minors

Minors are available in Geosciences and in Geological Oceanography.

To complete a minor you need to take at least 18 credits in an approved set of courses, with no more than 6 credits at the 100-level.

There is no set of required courses for either minor, so you can propose a set of courses based on your interests. All students considering a minor in Geosciences or Geological Oceanography should take GEO 103: Understanding Earth as a foundation course, but the remaining courses are flexible.

To get started, look through our course offerings to find courses that are of interest to you. Then make an appointment with our undergraduate advisor to fill out a minor declaration form.

Some possible course combinations are as follows:

Geosciences

Environmental

  • GEO 103: Understanding Earth
  • GEO 100: Environmental Geology or GEO 113: Natural Disasters
  • GEO 305: Global Warming or GEO 468: Ground-water Chemistry
  • GEO 482: Soil and Groundwater Remediation Technology and/or GEO 484 Environmental Hydrogeology
  • GEO 483: Hydrogeology or GEO 484: Environmental Hydrogeology

Climate Science

  • GEO 280 – Introduction to Climatology
  • GEO 305G – Global Climate Change
  • GEO 420 – Regional Climate Dynamics and Modeling
  • GEO 422 – Applied Climate Science
