Faculty research in climate science involves studying regional climate dynamics and change using observations and climate models, and investigating how those changes impact our water and ecological resources.

Geobiology

Faculty research in geobiology combines field research in extreme environments (hot marine vents, continental deeply-sourced spring environments, caustic groundwaters, deep dark subsurface rocks accessed through scientific drilling).

Hydrology and Water Resources

Faculty research in hydrology and water resources covers water supply and quality, clean-up of contaminated water resources and emerging contaminants (PFAS and pharmaceuticals etc.), coastal hydrology, including salt water intrusion, and modeling. 

Solid Earth

We study plate tectonics and the internal structure of the Earth to understand large and small scale processes that can lead to natural disasters. Research areas include volcanology, seismology, fluid dynamics, and more.

Regenerative Community Design Lab

The RCDL explores the intricate relationships between people and the natural environment, focusing on themes such as place attachment, urban design, environmental stewardship, therapeutic landscapes, and approaches to climate change adaptation, mitigation and communication.
