Biography

Shaunta Butler is a designer, artist, craftsperson, and educator. She grew up in Boise, Idaho, and holds Landscape Architecture degrees from Colorado State University and Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design.

Shaunta is an Assistant Teaching Professor at the University of Rhode Island in the Department of Earth Sciences, Planning, and Design and a course coordinator at Boston Architectural College in the Practice Department. She is also a partner at 6B Workshop, a collaborative community design firm based in Seattle, Washington.

As an educator, she has taught, lectured, and coached across multiple design disciplines for over a decade on three continents, instructing students from elementary to graduate levels in landscape architecture, architecture, professional practice, technology, user experience, design/build/fabrication, mixed media, and digital media at Harvard University Graduate School of Design, Boston Architectural College, The Wheeler School, American School of Mumbai, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, NuVu Studio Innovation School, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and University of Washington.

Digital fabrication and community engagement remain a core focus of her leadership, pedagogical, and service philosophies. She finds it incumbent on the design professions to foster broader access and exposure to the discipline for students at a younger age.
